  • Is leaded fuel better as than unleaded gasoline? 100 octane low lead aviation fuel (100LL avgas) is tested in several engines: Wankel rotary, see through piston engine, fuel injected generator, small engine for lead build up, and Predator 212 for top speed performance. A special thanks to Matt from the Warped Perception YouTube channel for loaning his rotary engine to me! Please check out his channel. His videos are absolutely amazing!!! I think you still love me, but we can’t escape the fact that I’m not enough for you. I knew this was going to happen. So I’m not blaming you for falling in love with another woman. I’m not angry, either. I should be, but I’m not. I just feel pain. A lot of pain. I thought I could imagine how much this would hurt, but I was wrong.
It's really a wonder that I haven't dropped all my ideals, because they seem so absurd and impossible to carry out. Yet I keep them, because in spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart.

Could you do some tests with diesel fuel? Like additives and burning rates?
People recommend so many diesel fuel additives the only 1 I had positive results with was 2cycle motor oil mixed with diesel. 1qt/gallon

Like which types burn hotter, longer, etc. And why is there so much ash left in some brands than others, additives? Keep up the great work!

What would be interesting would be to try testing wood hardeners. They claim to make the wood harder and that they restore strength to rotten wood. I'm curious if that's true.

Go borrow someones 454 Chevelle or Plymouth Roadrunner and run 100LL in it compared to 93 pump gas. The lead was added so automobile manufactures could increase the compression ratios of there engines without combustion knock. I am old enough that at one time all my mowers ran on lead fuels and cleaning the spark plugs on both that and my cars were a monthly task. So redo this test by milling the cylinder heads then test the different fuels, you will be surprised by the results. I actually did the same test in 1965.

Lead is super bad for humans. It should be banned. Even this guys exposure is probably too much. There is no safe level of lead exposure. It never leaves your body and creates havoc at the cellular level.

100LL 'Low Lead' is lower in lead than previous aviation fuels, but it has MUCH more lead than automotive fuels. This is because the engineering of the aviation engines from the '50's, which we still use today, require the additional lubrication in the form of lead due to the continuous high power ratio that they are subjected to. Automotive engines run at peak HP infrequently, are cooler, and cruise at a partial power setting, where aircraft are generally full throttle, hotter with less cooling almost continuously. Like you said the high lead of 100 'low lead' will destroy (plug up) a catalytic automotive exhaust element. Even though the current aviation engines are fundamentally from the '50's, they are fairly bullet-proof for their mission and difficult to improve on.

Off topic: Someone drilled a hole in a Cessna door post installing a windshield, where a pissing stream of 100LL was shooting out about a foot onto the floor (hidden fuel line), and by the time we got it plugged there was about 3 gallons of fuel on the floor of the hangar. So the boss comes out smoking a cigarette, standing in the puddle, saying "why the hell does it smell like fuel in here" :-)

I don't know much about it, but would 100LL Avgas work in an older car, like say from the 1950's. I don't have one, but I was told to make them run properly and for better lubrication, some people actually go out and buy "lead substitute" and add it to the gas tank. Would using the fuel that you used in this video work just as well?

Have you heard of cleaning carbon build up inside engine with water mist? The idea is you get the engine hot and while running mist water into intake. My grandfather said he did that back in the day, added a mist injector to intake post carb and drive when engine was at running temp he would turn the mist on on the highway while engine under load and sais it cleaned the engine well. I had an accidental discovery of the same thing when my head gasket blew and antifreeze got in the cylinder, when I took the engine apart that cylinder was the cleanest. I'd love to see this experiment with a see through head.
